A MAJOR road into and out of Stalybridge will be closed for more than a month as work is done on the railway bridge that crosses it.
Rassbottom Street Is being advertised as being shut on Monday, February 12 until Thursday, March 28 as maintenance and repairs are carried out.
However, a Tameside Council notice places a time period of about five weeks on the scheme.
The parapet will also be tended to during the programme of works as the site forms part of the multi-billion pound Transpennine Route Upgrade.

However, that will prevent cars from dropping down Rassbottom Street and along Waterloo Road before rejoining Stamford Street.
The notice states: “The order will temporarily prohibit vehicular traffic from proceeding along Rassbottom Street, Stalybridge, from its junction with Market Street to its junction with the Train Station Car Park in either direction.
“The alternative route for north westerly bound vehicular traffic will be via Waterloo Road, Market Street and A635 Stamford Street.
“The alternative route for south easterly bound vehicular traffic will be vice-versa.”

Buses diverted via
Clarence St, Bailey St, High St, Caroline St in both directions
Anyone remember the rose and crown pub that used to be next to the bridge?
Yeah, Rose & Crown, used to go in a lot, with the bikers….good times
Really hoping they might paint the bridge and liven it up , like they have with some around Manchester and Salford, it would make it a much more welcoming gateway into the town.
Anyone noticed the horrendous traffic jams at Stamford Park and Bailey Street now while everyone tries to work out how to get about 🙁
I do hope the Victorian decorative mouldings are going back on ?
