BOMB disposal officers descended on an Ashton-under-Lyne store following the discovery of a possible grenade.
Nearby shops were evacuated after the item was found among things donated to the YMCA outlet in The Arcades.
A unit arrived from Chester as investigations took place to ascertain exactly what the object was.
Greater Manchester Police officers made an arrest at the scene but that is thought to be unrelated to the ‘grenade.’
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “At around 1.15pm on Tuesday 6 February 2024, officers were called to a report of a grenade found in a business premises on Warrington Street, Ashton-under-Lyne.
“Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) are also at the scene to assess the item but currently do not believe there to be a risk.”
Police units have now been stood down and the centre reopened to the public.
The suspected grenade was a training device.
Shame they don’t apply this level of response to fixing homelessness, how much did all this cost?
