Civic Mayor’s cultural fashion show for charities

THE Civic Mayor of Tameside is holding a fashion show with a difference to help raise more funds for her chosen charities.

Councillor Tafheen Sharif has organised a cultural fashion show, which will take place at Dukinfield Town Hall on Friday, February 2, from 7pm.

Cllr Sharif, Tameside’s first Muslim and ethnic minority Civic Mayor, is keen to emphasise and promote the diversity that symbolises Tameside in the present day.

“While tastes may differ from culture to culture, style is universal,” said Cllr Sharif, who represents the Mossley ward.

“This is not only a fashion show but a celebration of our diverse and beautiful cultures across Tameside – a unique event that will bring us together and reflect the goodness we all carry.”

She added: “Equality, inclusivity and opportunities are values close to my heart and this event will make a bold statement about them.

“My charity fashion show is open to everyone and the people attending won’t just be supporting some very worthwhile causes, they’ll be at an event they’re bound to enjoy.”

The fashion show is the latest event in the Civic Mayor’s varied diary, which has also included a Bollywood night and a business networking dinner recently.

Models will be displaying clothing from many of the borough’s cultures. Refreshments will be available and there will be a raffle too.

Tickets are £5 and can be bought by emailing mayorsoffice@tameside.gov.uk

Proceeds will go to the Civic Mayor’s chosen charities which are Home-Start, which helps young and vulnerable families; Pauline Town’s We Shall Overcome charity for the homeless; and West African Development, which supports Tameside’s ethnic minorities.
