Explosion at electricity substation in Stalybridge

EMERGENCY services are at the scene of an incident in Stalybridge.

Crews from Greater Manchester Police and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue service were called to Clarence Street on Wednesday, December 13 following reports of an explosion.

A cordon is in place and people are advised to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 8.50am this morning (Wednesday, December 13) three fire engines from Stalybridge, Ashton-Under-Lyne, and Mossley fire stations were called to Bayley Street in Stalybridge to a fire involving an electricity substation. Firefighters are working with colleagues from Electricity North West and Greater Manchester Police to make the scene safe. Crews remain in attendance.”

The incident is ongoing.
