A MAJOR Stalybridge road has been closed after a tree has fallen as Storm Elin lashes the area.
In concerning scenes, the trunk collapsed across Mottram Road, close to the lodge at the entrance to Cheetham Park, on the evening of Saturday, December 9.
A car was damaged as branches tumbled on to it – but The Correspondent understands its occupants are medically OK, yet shaken up.
However, the operation to move the tree from what is one of Stalybridge’s main arterial routes is likely to see disruption for some time.
Storm Elin, as named by the meteorological service in the Republic of Ireland, is bringing high winds as well as heavy rain to the area.
And this tree fall is set to see an emergency response to clear the carriageway and prevent traffic chaos lasting hours in the vicinity.
Ambulance chasers putting up distressing photos of your sons smashed up car on Facebook so quickly he’s not even had chance to explain what’s happened.
Notice the emergency service vehicles haven’t arrives yet in your photos.
Thanks for making it so much worse for us.
A photo from a distance would have sufficed.
You wet wipe. The community around here couldn’t have done enough. Just a shame the police didn’t stick around, and the council didn’t turn up in good time.
Thanks for that insult Ross on the night my son was in a bad accident but I think you missed my point. These photos of my sons car appeared within minutes of it happening – on this site. I had a news alert on my phone. We saw them as he was still on the phone telling us what happened. While he is trying to assure us he is ok we see his car all caved in. Made a bad situation even worse.
I didn’t say anything about the community or the police.
Hello, we made sure that the occupants of the car were safe and well before reporting this story. A major road was blocked – our article was seen by the local farmer (who then messaged us direct asking if help was needed) and we asked if he would be able to go down and help clear the road. The car’s number plate is not visible. We have not identified the occupants of the vehicle however we did make sure they were ok. It is our job to report news. We do this following guidelines. We are regulated and adhere to reporting laws. Please do contact us if you wish to discuss further.
I disagree with your point, Jason.
I was there. I spoke to the two people who were affected by this; one of which I assume is your son. We offered them drinks and any other comfort they might need. There were no pictures taken at this point; the safety of those people were paramount.
Photos were taken later – what do you expect? This kind of thing doesn’t happen often. But all of it that happened once people knew the young couple were ok. A good community response.
I will put your response down to emotions which I understand. Hope your son and the other person rsxover for this experience.
Tameside Council should cut down all trees if this is how they treat humans and their property. Look at how many people have been left angry, upset and distressed by this one thoughtless tree.
Haha good one ????
That was supposed to be a laughing face not 3 question marks!
