Ashton pub to close in January after brewery’s decision

AN ASHTON-UNDER-LYNE pub is set to close after its brewery decided to sell the premises.

Staff at the Junction Inn, on Mossley Road, were left stunned when Robinsons notified them of their decision.

And after pleas to keep the building open, it has now been decided it will close early in 2024.

In a statement, those working at the Junction Inn said: “This isn’t something we thought we would have to write.

“But unfortunately, the brewery has decided that they want to sell the pub. After discussions we have made an agreement to close in January (dates to be confirmed).”

Customers with bookings for December and over the Christmas period have been assured the news will not affect those.

And they admitted they are powerless to alter the deicsion.

Staff added: “This will not affect any bookings throughout December and Christmas. Everything is still running as normal.

“We just want to thank everyone who has come in over the last couple of years and kept us busy. Our reputation for good food has grown massively and we are very grateful.

“Unfortunately, this is just out of our control.”

  1. Another nail in the coffin for the area. It’s a fabulous pub and has been a local to many for years ????????‍♀️

  2. To be fair, Robinsons is a brewery not a food franchise. They sell beer not bangers, and no matter how many Sunday Roasts you manage to shift, Robinsons measure success on how many barrells they’re dropping into the cellar each week. I was stunned when we ate at the Junction one Sunday and they literally kicked everyone out after dessert and shut the place. That’s not a pub! This will be the timeline of events in 2024;

Pub Closes and Windows get boarded up.

Pub stays in this state for 18 months until planning permission for 2 detatched houses is approved.

Pub gets demolished in early 2026.

Building work starts on 2 x 4 bedroom detatched houses.

Whilst this is in progress the developer puts a bid in for the old petrol station directly opposite the Junction Inn.

    Bid Accepted.

A further 2 x 4 Bedroom detatched houses are built on this plot with stunning views over the tame valley, with big gardens to the rear and en suite bathrooms in every bedroom.

Off street parking will be provided, with electric car charging ports fitted as standard on all 4 driveways, as required now by the latest English Building Regulations.

    1. I Buildit, you forgot the visit from the Consultant Arsonist, which will remove quite a lot of obstacles to redevelopment…

  3. Another great pub gone for what to come ……HMO more than likely.
Just like most of them in tameside what are closing down or been left to fall apart.
Just look at the burlington in ashton nothing done for years

  4. Robinsons have been rationalising their beer outlets for some time.

Some have had money spent & been redeveloped & revamped
& others have been sold off.

    Clearly, from the brewery’s pov
the pub wasn’t generating enough revenue for the brewery
    AND
    presumably, also
    from the brewery’s pov
whoever has made an offer for the building
has matched or exceeded what Robinsons imagined the property value
(or the anticipated long term revenue)
    to be…..?

  5. Oh what a shock to learn that the pub, which my grandfathers
family created and where I was born, is to be demolished.m
I am 82 years old and have many happy memories.
I remember the garage opening and also the little village shop.
Well, as they say, life goes on but whether it is for the best I very much doubt. After all, the. Pub/restaurant is the hub of most villages. People deserve a place to unwind and relax.
