Musical magic among Ashton town centre festive celebrations

THERE will be plenty of festive spirit in the air throughout December in Ashton-under-Lyne town centre.

Between 11am and 3pm on Saturday, December 2, Market Avenue in the town will be hosting an event – inspired by Christmas tunes – with four specially commissioned art pieces by Elliot Davey.

Elliot, an artist from Droylsden, has created artwork to reflect four popular festive songs which will be seen in some of the shop windows on the avenue.

Elliot, who currently has some sci-fi and fantasy-themed work on display on the upper level in Hyde Market Hall, said: “I’m delighted that Ashton Town Team chose to commission me for this project on Market Avenue.

“Many people have their own favourite Christmas song and I hope when you see the artwork, I have chosen one of your favourites.”

Children will also be able to colour in the artwork themselves, with black and white drawings of each piece available, and make their own festive greeting card too.

The event has been organised by the Ashton Town Team, supported by Tameside Council, and funded by the Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund for Communities and Place for the Ashton Creative Improvement District.

Meanwhile, the town centre is also currently hosting an ‘Elf Trail’ with characters created by the talented Chris Anderson hidden across the town centre in various shops. Chris, from No Eyed Theatre, has also written a story to accompany the trail, which is centred around a festive shopping list.

Ashton Market Hall is also hosting ‘The Price Is Right’ – where shoppers can guess a price with a chance to win goodies from market traders – in the main seating area between 11am and 1pm on December 2 and 9.
