Scouts cook up Chinese cuisine in competition

LOCAL Scouts competed against each other to cook up some delicious Chinese cuisine.

Youngsters showcased their culinary prowess as North Tameside Scouts held their annual cookery competition, at 1st/2nd Hurst Scouts HQ last Saturday, November 18.

The teams were tasked with making a three-course Chinese meal of their choice, including planning a menu and creating a shopping list.

The judges, Jane Rogers and Wyn Fish, had to check the menus and ingredients and the Scouts worked together throughout the competition.

They tasted each dish with chopsticks and even the Civic Mayor of Tameside, Councillor Tafheen Sharif, came along to enjoy a vegan chop suey roll.

After the points were added up, the winning team was Megan, Megan, Ethan and Harrison from 6th Ashton Scout Group, who won the competition by just two points.

Cllr Sharif, and her small son, presented the team with their number one cooking certificates.

The mayor congratulated the Scouts for their wonderful Chinese food and acknowledged the role Scout leaders are playing in teaching the children life skills like cooking.
