A TEAM from a Hyde opticians is warming up to take on the rest in a charity football competition.
Optical and audiology colleagues including Martin Booth, Robert Marsden, Hassan Zameer, Ahmed Amara and Ben Francis have formed the side hoping to walk away with the first Specsavers Lancashire Football Charity Tournament.
Taking place on Sunday, November 5, they all have their eyes on the prize and are determined to raise as much money as possible for their chosen charity, Dementia UK.
The tournament will be held at Power League Bolton, with three other Specsavers teams taking part from stores in Bolton, Burnley and Leigh.
Also participating is NHS eye health provider and official sponsor of the event, Spa Medica, bringing the total teams competing to five.
The five-a-side games will take place between 11am and 2pm, with snacks and refreshments available for competitors and observers.
Organised by keen footballer Umayr Zahid, the event will raise money for each store’s chosen charity.
Martin, director at Specsavers Hyde, which is on Market Place, said: ‘We’re thrilled to be in with a chance to be crowned the Specsavers Lancashire champion.
“But more importantly, we’re incredibly proud to be supporting the community by raising money for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity which provides free, life-changing support and advice to anyone affected by dementia.
“The entire team has thrown themselves into preparing for the tournament and there is a small element of local rivalry, and we can’t wait to see who wins on the big day.’
Tournament organiser Umayr added: “I recently became a father for the first time and it’s opened my eyes to how important family is.
“I’m passionate about helping other families who are doing all they can to support their loved ones, which has been reflected in each store’s chosen charity.
“The idea is that everyone will come together, have fun, connect and socialise – while raising money for a good cause.’
