PEOPLE from Tameside have been ordered to pay more than £2,500 after being caught throwing cigarette butts.
Six offenders were hauled before magistrates, all for offences in Manchester earlier this year – two on the same street a month apart.
And JPs did not hold back when given out punishments, each giving them penalties totalling £433.
Two from Droylsden – Sarah Francis, 41, and Pauline Lisle, 55 – were both caught leaving cigarette butts lying on Gibbon Street, close to Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium, in March and April respectively.
Dean Smith, of Leigh Street in Hyde, was punished for doing so on Portland Street in Manchester city centre on June 1 while Louise Waite, of Cemetery Road, Audenshaw, committee her offence on Clayton Street on May 18.
Laura Hobday, of Colbourne Grove in Hyde, was caught on John Dalton Street on May 30, while Mike Leigh, of Ashton-under-Lyne’s Dirk Farm, committed an offence also on Portland Street on Juen 19.
At Tameside Magistrates Court on October 23, each was fined £220 and ordered to pay costs of £125 plus a surcharge of £88.
