DENTON paid homage to those who serve for King and country as its Armed Forces Day celebration proved another success.
Hundreds packed into Victoria Park on Saturday, June 24 to recognise what the services do for us and our nation.
There was a serious side as proceedings started with Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Tafheen Sharif, hosting a veterans’ lunch where she and other dignitaries extended personal thanks to those who have served in the forces.
But there was also plenty of fun as at the famous bandstand, there was live music from the Dave Egerton Band and singer Jo Farrow.

And around the park, Tameside’s cadet units put on demonstrations while people could test their strength on the climbing wall, have a try at inflatable archery and even show their aim with axe throwing.
Tameside’s sea cadets also showed off their skill with a club swinging display.
It was also possible to find out about military history even personal armed forces connections.
Denton’s MP, Andrew Gwynne, was in attendance and described the event as ‘a belter.’
He added: “But the best and most humbling part was also meeting some of our brilliant veterans and their families.
“We owe so much to them.”
