STALYBRIDGE came together and showed its community spirit as it celebrated its carnival.
Dozens of people and local groups paraded through the town’s streets in a celebration of what it has to offer.
And organisers have hailed the event, which saw two days of events on Saturday and Sunday, June 24 and 25, as a huge success.
In Armentieres Square, local dance groups gave demonstrations while a fairground proved very popular, along with canal boat trips operated by the Huddersfield Canal Society.
Then the parade wound its way from Bayley Street around the town centre before everyone moved on to Cheetham Park.
Tameside’s Sea Cadets put on a show as they were named the best walking group while the Rock Choir of Bolton, Middleton, Saddleworth and Stockport entertained with renditions of familiar songs, their Fleetwood Mac number, Go Your Own Way, went down very well.
Stalybridge Carnival’s committee said: “What a fantastic day we had! The community of Stalybridge really came together.
“You did us and yourselves proud! The committee work all year round to make the carnival a great success and to make sure everyone has a memorable day.
“We do it out of the kindness of our hearts. Thank you again for an amazing day.”
What’s more, barring a late soaking, the weather was fine for both days!
Hello it was a fantastic day but I special mention needs to be done for Unity Stage School who waited patiently until the rain came to then get their chance to dance. They were amazing as the rain lashed down smiling and having fun. A credit to the community!
