DUNELM, the UK’s leading homewares retailer, has launched a campaign to help children in local communities over the long summer period – and they’re asking Tameside residents for their support.
Building on the hugely successful annual Christmas Delivering Joy campaigns, which last year saw generous customers donate more than 62,000 gifts to local communities and people in need throughout the UK, Dunelm are now aiming to spread some summertime joy in Ashton-under-Lyne.
The branch, located on Snipe retail park, are working in partnership with local charities and schools as part of the campaign and are asking Dunelm customers to donate toys, games and books to help keep children entertained over the summer months.
For those wanting to donate, they can simply head to their local Dunelm store and grab a homemade bag to fill with a gift or fun activity for a child. Each bag carries a personalised recipient tag, detailing the age and interests of a local child, and should be returned to store by Friday June 30th 2023.
Debbie Higham, Dunelm Regional Manager for the North West, said: “Our handmade bags are ready to be collected by customers and we are looking forward to sharing them with local children who may otherwise not have as much to enjoy this summer – we love helping our customers and we know from our Christmas Delivering Joy campaign what a difference these gifts can make.”
The campaign has come at a pivotal time after new research has revealed almost half (46%) of parents in the North West are worried about not being able to afford summer activities, such as days out or a UK break and that almost 1 in 4 parents who could not afford items or activities in the last 12 months (24%) have noticed an increase in stress and anxiety in their children.*
This follows months of money worries for households in the North*, a result of the cost-of-living crisis, which has inspired Dunelm, the UK’s leading homewares retailer, to launch a campaign to help support children across the North-West over the long summer period.
Dunelm is also working in collaboration with In-Kind Direct, a charity who conducted the research with YouGov, which distributes consumer products donated by companies to over 5,000 charitable organisations across the UK including charities, community groups, foodbanks and schools.
