Age UK Stalybridge seeks more volunteers to help make ‘lasting legacy’

KEEN helpers are invited to Age UK Stalybridge’s next taster sessions to find out how to be part of a lasting legacy of volunteers.

The first taster sessions, held as part of The Big Help Out on May 8 at the charity’s shop on Melbourne Street, were well attended and saw numerous new volunteers join the team.

Another taster session day will be held on Wednesday, June 7 at the shop from 12noon-5pm as more volunteers are still needed.

The Big Help Out is a campaign to showcase how volunteering benefits both communities and the people who take part, and aims to get more people volunteering who traditionally don’t consider it.

Janet, Manager at Age UK Stalybridge, said: “On behalf of the Age UK shop in Stalybridge I would like to thank the local community for getting behind The Big Help Out.

“By encouraging people to lend a hand over the Coronation Bank Holiday, The Big Help Out aimed to inspire a lasting legacy of new volunteers – something we are definitely working towards here at Age UK.

“We were delighted by the response we received to the taster sessions on May 8. It was fantastic to see people coming together to help out in our shop, experience how rewarding volunteering can be and the power it has to make a change.

“We have now welcomed new volunteers as permanent members of our shop’s team and we’re hoping to welcome many more.

“Volunteers are the backbone of Age UK shops and without their support and dedication the charity would simply be unable to raise the vital funds the shops generate.

“So we’d like to thank the people of Stalybridge who took part and lent us their support.

“However, The Big Help Out is not for one day only and we still urgently need volunteers. So we will be adding another taster session day during Volunteers Week on Wednesday, June 7.

“As well as helping the charity support older people and making a difference to the local community, volunteers can also make new friends, discover new interests and develop new skills.

“So please sign up via The Big Help Out app or get in touch with the Age UK Stalybridge shop.”
