Home success for Stamford at golf open

STAMFORD Golf Club is celebrating home success after its members came out on top in the Gents Spring Charity Open.

A huge 134-man field representing more than 10 different clubs assembled at the Carrbrook course.

But it was two of their own = Steve Henshall and Steve Dooley – who came out on top after scoring 46 points.

And it was certainly a close-run thing as runners-up Paul and Sean McDermott and Will Corless and Chris Pogson were just one behind.

After going so close, Will was magnanimous, saying: “The event was managed to perfection with a great display of signage and support from various divisions.

“The starter on the first tee and scoring office were all managed and organised. The course played incredibly fair and I think in general the day was a credit to the club.”

Competitions are in full swing at Stamford, with Steve Finan leading its Midweek Wednesday League, with a grand prize of a pro shop credit plus weekly ones of a £40 meal voucher for Scouthead’s Old Original.

And a record number of entries have signed up to all of the knockouts in this season’s Summer Matchplay events.
