Plenty of Industry success in Stalybridge

A HIGH-QUALITY co-working space in Stalybridge is proving a cut above after helping drive the wheels of business for a year.

Industry, which is based in what was Longlands Mill on Castle Street, has proved popular since setting up in January last year.

It sees people from different firms literally get around the table to share facilities, with high speed wi-fi allowing them to hold and take part in virtual meetings.

There is also space for physical get togethers alongside – if people want, they can even get their hair done at the salon across the floor.

Inside the flexible work space at Industry in Stalybridge

Industry first opened its doors as a hair and beauty salon back in 2015 but after Covid-19 struck the world, owner Tiff Mcglashan saw an opportunity to diversify the business.

A conversation with friend and interior designer Helen Budsworth led to the collaboration.

And despite opening in one of the most challenging years for businesses, Industry has gone from strength to strength.

It has also hosted a plethora of events, from wreath making and cookery classes to art workshops and quiz nights.

Industry has also become popular as a venue for private events, including board meetings and strategy days for businesses as well as social events.

Spaces can be booked to suit your needs

Workspace director Helen said “When we first set out on this journey, we believed there was space for a business like Industry but the appetite for what we offer has blown me away.

“The people of Tameside – and far beyond – really wanted a third space, away from the home and office, that allowed them to be productive.

“We’re really building a community here and it feels like the beginning of something very special. The whole team is very excited about the future”

Tiff added “We’d seen an opportunity, even before the pandemic, to offer something new and exciting in Stalybridge.

“An increasing number of people were coming to the salon with laptops, trying to maximise their time whilst juggling busy work and home lives.

“Now, these same people can use our professional coworking space whilst they’re in the salon. There’s nothing else like it in the north west.”

Industry may be celebrating a year in operation but it is not standing still, with plans for 2023 and beyond, including more community-focused events and food collaborations with local producers.

Its kitchen is open from Tuesday to Friday and serves a range of hot and cold food and drinks to eat in or takeaway.
