Further arrest in Mossley murder probe

ANOTHER man has been arrested in relation to the brutal killing of a man in a quiet street in Mossley.

The alleged ‘mastermind’ behind the slaying of Thomas Campbell, John Belfield, is currently being held in the South American country of Suriname after being arrested on suspicion of drugs offences.

Now a 43-year-old is in Greater Manchester Police custody on suspicion of assisting an offender.

He will be questioned by detectives from the force’s major incident team.

Mr Campbell, 38, was found by a neighbour at his home on Riverside at about 10.30am on Sunday, July 3 and despite the best efforts of emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A murder investigation continues and Detective Inspector Paul Davies said: “This arrest is a huge step in our investigation, as we piece together what was a horrific attack and find answers for Thomas’ friends and family.

“Our team have been working round the clock and have conducted numerous different lines of enquiry to establish the events leading up to Thomas’ death.

“Our investigation is far from over and will remain ongoing until we are able to say that we have brought all those we believe were involved to justice.
