SARAH Day may be known as The Secret Florist but word about the quality of her work is spreading quickly.
This Mother’s Day, Sunday March 19, avoid your run of the mill supermarket flowers and opt for rustic and wild designs that your mum will be sure to love from The Secret Florist based in Stalybridge.
Sarah chose the name as she does not have a high street presence, instead working from her quirky garden workshop which ties in with her wild and rustic garden style bouquets.
She said: “Before setting up my floristry business I had a successful career as a ladieswear designer for more than 10 years, designing clothes for many high street retailers.
“But I moved into floristry 11 years ago after training and becoming qualified in floristry in 2012.”
Sarah’s floristry career started when she was planning her own wedding.
After visiting her florist, she realised her creative skills could be utilised in other areas.
Alongside her freelance fashion career she studied floristry a couple of days a week. Using her knowledge of colour palettes and her creative eye, Sarah now uses beautiful selections of wild and rustic flowers to create unique designs including the ever so popular signature hydrangea hand tied bouquet.
These bouquets are hand tied together and arranged in a box and bubble of water featuring a beautiful hydrangea at the centre of the design.
With her floristry knowledge of balance and form, she always selects the best shaped flowers to incorporate together in her designs to create the most impact, and her creative background really helps provide amazing ideas for new brides where colour is the key at the start of the design process.
She offers brides free consultations from her garden workshop to talk through all their ideas.
The Secret Florist provides flowers for all occasions including weddings, funerals and other life events, but on a day-to-day basis she regularly arranges gift bouquets to send messages such as happy birthday, happy anniversary, congratulations, thinking of you, as well as bouquets for sympathy gifts, new babies and, ‘I’m Sorry’s.
Sarah added: “For Mother’s Day, as well as the signature hydrangea hand tied bouquet and florist’s choice bouquets, you can also choose a spring hand tied bouquet, spring mason jar arrangement or the quirky Mother’s Day love letter.
“I’m also offering hat box arrangements, a vintage rose vase arrangement or rustic pales that have been really popular in the past.”
The Secret Florist’s expertise can also be seen elsewhere as Sarah is doing more and more collaborations with other local businesses, such as workshops at Industry Stalybridge, and a concession in Aspinall’s boutique which features dried floral arrangements.
Her next event is a Spring wreath workshop on Sunday, April 2 at Industry Stalybridge, where you will learn how to create your very own fresh and dried Spring wreath whilst enjoying drinks and nibbles! Priced at £52 per person. Please get in touch with The Secret Florist to book on!
Talking with Sarah you can really feel the enthusiasm she has for her craft as she continues: “I use quality flowers in every arrangement I make, always bearing in mind the overall effect I want to achieve, using multiple varieties of flowers, and complementary colours.”
This can clearly be seen by scrolling through pictures on her socials and her own website (links below). All arrangements can be pre-ordered on these platforms, through her website, or over the phone.
One thing is for sure, if you order from The Secret Florist you certainly will not get your usual, run of the mill, arrangement.
