Guide Bridge Theatre Announces Auditions for Alan Bennett’s “The Lady in The Van”

GUIDE Bridge Theatre is excited to announce open auditions for its upcoming production of “The Lady in The Van” by Alan Bennett.

The play, which was first performed at the National Theatre in 1999 and later adapted into a successful film, tells the heart-warming story of a writer’s relationship with a cantankerous homeless woman who parks her camper van on his driveway for 15 years.

Directed by Sue Borg, auditions for the production will be held on Monday, March 20th, 2023, at 7:30 pm at Guide Bridge Theatre.

Performance dates are scheduled for September 4th-9th, 2023, including a Saturday matinee.

The theatre is currently seeking talented actors to fill the following roles:

  • Miss Shepherd – Female, 60s/70s
  • Alan Bennett #1 – Male, 40s
  • Alan Bennett #2 – Male, 40s
  • Alan’s Mam – Female, 60s
  • Rufus (neighbour) – Male, 40s/50s
  • Pauline (neighbour) – Female, 40s/50s
  • Social Worker – Female, 20s/30s
  • Underwood – Male, 60s
  • Mrs Bennett’s GP/ Leo – Male, 50s
  • Lout/Ambulance Driver – Male, 20s/30s
  • Mrs Shepherd’s GP – Female, 30s/40s
  • Interviewer – Female, 20s/30s
  • Priest – Male, 50s
  • Extra parts of Workmen for the Council x 2 – Male, 20s/30s
  • Extra parts of Undertakers x 2 – Male/Female, 20s/30s

Guide Bridge Theatre welcomes actors of all levels and experience to audition for this production. Although walk-ins are accepted, we encourage interested actors to register in advance, specifying which roles they are interested in. The theatre will provide script samples for the play(s) you wish to audition for.
