HIGH streets around Tameside have seen many takeaways come and go. So lasting more than 30 years must be a sign of quality.
That is exactly what Stanley Square has done in Stalybridge after first setting up in 1992.
Times have changed – who had ever heard of Covid-19 back then? Communities have changed but the commitment to their best has never altered.
Serving curry, kebabs, burgers, wraps, pizza and other things, including desserts, the store has always been popular with people.
And manager Ikky Mohammed believes the fact it is now in its fourth decade – with chef Raj having been there 24 years – is cause for celebration.
“Things have been going well,” he said. “Being here more than 30 years is great and it’s all down to what we do and our customers.
“Obviously, we’ve had to change a bit as a business over the years as the prices of ingredients and even packaging have gone up.
“But we’re now seeing generational customers, ones whose parents ordered from us when they were younger.
“And with this new generation, takeaways have become more popular.”
The layout and appearance at Stanley Square has also changed over the years, Ikky has renovated the premises with a fresh new look, even moving the counter forward to give his 15 kitchen staff extra space.
He is in no doubt about what is the most popular dish. He simply replied: “Curry. We sell a lot of masalas and kormas.
But world events over the last tree years have made their mark as he added: “Covid-19 had a massive impact.
“As well as not being able to work and deliver our products, the prices have all gone up but we’ve bounced back and our popularity speaks for itself.”
