A TAMESIDE golf course is making things much more accessible with the installation of a new path after members called for action.
The trail at Stalybridge’s Stamford club will add to work started initially as a lockdown project to make a bridge at its 10th hole.
Following the efforts of Dave Furness and Phil Brown, a rusty construction became a pleasant, polished black steel walkway with the initials SGC printed on the side.
That was given another uplift with an astroturf surface fitted by volunteer James Woodcock.

Now that will form part of the new path, which will make walking along the 10th a much better experience.
It will also pass the hole’s red tee in what the club says is a move, ‘to accommodate all golfers in a bid to offer accessibility in challenging conditions as well as generally improving the overall aesthetics of the walkway.’
Work is expected to be completed shortly as Stamford Golf Club said: “We are making moves in the right direction, to build a better and more accessible SGC!”

Meanwhile the club has presented assistant green keeper Stephen Monaghan with a token gift for his commitment and hard work over the past year.
He said: “It’s a fantastic work force and club to be a part of, which makes coming to work very pleasurable.
“As a team, we’re all excited for 2023.”
