FIRE FIGHTERS from five different stations attended a large fire at a block of flats in Ashton.
Smoke was seen billowing from Portland House on Katherine Street, late in the morning of Tuesday, January 31.
People living there were evacuated safely and crews were at the scene for more than two hours.
Three people were medically assessed at the scene but no-one needed hospital treatment.
Katherine Street was blocked between William Street and Richmond Street while the fire, which saw windows put out, was extinguished but some neighbouring properties may have suffered water damage.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just before 11.30am on Tuesday, January 31, five fire engines from Ashton, Hyde, Mossley, Gorton and Hollins fire station were called to reports of a building fire involving flats on Katherine Street, Ashton-Under-Lyne.
“The crews arrived quickly at scene. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatuses used two safety jets to extinguish the fire.”
