SHOPPERS have been left saddened after a supermarket’s popular adopted cat passed away.
Max became a familiar face at Tesco in Stalybridge after he became a presence that put a smile on people’s faces.
But just before the turn of the year, he died and an outpouring of sympathy from dozens of people has followed the news.

Some have even suggested the store places a memorial plaque above where Max was often found relaxing.
His owners said: “We just wanted to say thank you to everyone who worked at and visited Tesco for all of the love and attention you gave Max.

“He loved to hang out and say hello to everyone and it meant a lot to us that he had so many friends who loved him.
“We love and miss him deeply. Thank you for the kind words we’ve received.”

There is now a plaque within the store, which is placed above the baskets at the entrance. This plaque and walnut plinth was engraved at ‘Engraving by John Dearden’, in City centre Manchester. http://www.engraving.uk.net
