NICK Spooner wants his Hyde United players to really stick to a new year’s resolution – and score more goals.
And the manager wants them to start at Ashton United in the second Tameside derby of the festive season after letting supporters down against Stalybridge Celtic.
The Tigers had plenty of chances but Chris Dagnall’s goal settled it for the away side, a loss that hurt in front of more than 1,700 fans.
And Spooner wants them to avenge that disappointment as they travel to Hurst Cross.

He told the club: “I’m really disappointed with the result the other day. I feel that’s the first game in which we really let the fans down.
“So we need to make amends for that.”
Hyde head across Tameside to mid-table Ashton second in the Northern Premier League.
You would think Spooner would be beaming after keeping them in the division last season. Instead, he is cursing – and everyone knows why.
He added: “When I came in, the club was in a dodgy position and results would keep us up. We did that successfully and started this season really, really well.
“If someone had said back in February, ‘You’ll be second in the league going into the new year,’ I would’ve snatched their hand off. But I’m very disappointed we haven’t got more points.
“I’ve been a bit of a broken record about us not scoring enough goals. Think of the points we’ve lost and you’re disappointed to be second. Everyone’s aware we need to score more goals.”
