MEMBERS of Tameside Rotary Club have donated £200 to Willow Wood as a way of saying thank you for keeping people entertained at its beer festival.
The event, at Stalybridge’s Civic Hall, was a success as it returned to the calendar in November following Covid-19 lockdowns and restrictions, as well as a postponement because of the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
But a big part of the proceedings were performances by Mossley Ukelele Group and Willow Wood Choir.
And both were thanked with the donation to the Ashton-based hospice.
John Capper, of Mossley Ukulele Group, is a volunteer at Willow Wood and said he would dearly like any donations Rotary made to go there.
And as it put on an amazing display in a Garden of a Thousand Lights, members were invited as guests by vice-chair and trustee Mark Llewellyn.
Tameside Rotary president Mohammed Karim presented the cheque as the borough’s Civic Mayor, Cllr Mike Glover, also attended.
It was very appropriate as he was one of a handful of the creators of the Beer Festival when Ashton Rotary did it initially.
This year, Tameside Rotary celebrated the festival’s 10th anniversary!
John, pictured receiving the cheque, also advises anyone wishing to join Mossley Ukulele is more than welcome and no audition is required.
