Best of brass saved until last in Stalybridge

STALYBRIDGE will end its time as Greater Manchester Town of Culture with a festive brass band concert.

The Civic Hall will see the Old Band, which was founded in 1809 and is renowned as the world’s oldest, performing on Tuesday, December 20.

And all proceeds from Best of Christmas Brass will go to Tameside Council’s Mayoral Charity, supporting The Christie.

The evening, which will be attended by Civic Mayor, Cllr Mike Glover, includes a programme of carols and seasonal brass classics.

Tea, coffee and mince pies will be available to purchase.

Tameside Council’s assistant executive member for heritage, culture and digital inclusion, Cllr Sangita Patel, said: “I can’t think of a more fitting, joyful and homegrown event to celebrate Christmas and culminate what has been an amazing year of Town of Culture activities.

“It will showcase Stalybridge and its fantastic heritage as well as the many talented artists and performers who are based here.

“It will also help to raise funds for a charity that’s close to many people’s hearts. I would encourage people to get tickets early as the event is expected to be popular.”

Tickets for the event, which cost just £2.50, are available from www.ticketsource.co.uk/tameside-mbc.
