Denton West Neighbourhood Watch scheme closes

A COMMUNITY Neighbourhood Watch scheme that had worked closely with other groups and the police has announced it is closing.

The Denton West branch played an important role in making sure people and businesses in the Dane Bank area were as aware and safe as they could be.

But after its meeting on Tuesday, October 11, it was announced no more would be held. Funds will now benefit three other community groups.

A spokesman for Denton West Neighbourhood Watch said: “It is with a heavy heart that we would like to announce the closure of the Denton West Ward Neighbourhood Watch scheme and confirm that meeting will be our last.

“Any remaining funds in our bank account will be split between Dane Bank Green Space, Denton West End Community Library and Dane Bank Garden Society.

“We would like to thank everyone who has supported the scheme over the years by volunteering, co-ordinating, or joining us as members.

“We would also like to thank Team Denton West and GMP Tameside South and West for all their support in the past.

“Any neighbourhood issues that now arise can be directed to the police and councillor surgeries.”

News of the closure was greeted with sadness by residents and local political figures alike.

Tameside councillor Brenda Warrington, who represents the Denton West area, said: “Thank you for all the hard work you have put in over the years, it has been a pleasure to work with you.”
