Haal of a response to Ashton United’s Erling move

ASHTON United have found themselves at the centre of national media coverage after making a loan offer for Manchester City megastar Erling Haaland.

And to co-chairman Jonathan Burke, it has all been ‘magical.’

TV, radio and newspapers have turned their eyes towards Hurst cross after the Northern Premier League club submitted an approach to take the Blues’ goal machine for 28 days.

Phones have been ringing off the hook and the Robins’ website crashed as people swarmed to look at United’s statement.

And while the approach is genuine, seeing Ashton United get national exposure is the stuff of fairytale.

Jonathan told The Correspondent: “It was certainly an interesting day.

“The reaction was amazing. It was really magical to be honest. It’s amazing for a club like ours to get as much attention, it’s been really exciting for everyone.

“I saw us on TV five times yesterday, it’s just been kind of wild but it was a really great day.

“Our media volunteer, Matt, got the ball rolling. We’d talked about, ‘Can we start being a bit more playful on Twitter and start to communicate to other people?’

“I got a message to say, ‘I’ve done this.’ I thought, ‘Great,’ then everyone’s phones were on fire all day.

“But an offer has genuinely been made. I believe one has gone in.”

So far, Manchester City have not responded to Ashton United’s approach for the Norwegian, who is not heading to the World Cup in Qatar.

In a statement, manager Michael Clegg said: “It just makes sense.

“City aren’t playing, and we want to help by keeping Erling fit, it makes more sense than him playing golf for six weeks.

“We think he will be a great fit for us, and would slot in with our squad dynamic really well.”
