CANAL lock gates in Stalybridge are being removed as the Canal and River Trust starts winter repair work.
Cranes are in place at Castle Street car park, from where they are being lifted out as new resin grouting is being put behind the walls to fill any voids and prevent deterioration of the structure.
The body is already working to mend the towpath further along the waterway close to Bayley Street.
