TWO CARRBROOK schoolgirls inspired by the national fundraising campaign of the late Dame Deborah James have been rewarded by Tameside’s Civic Mayor.
Maisie Kelly and Isla Thornley, who attend Buckton Vale Primary, on Swallow Lane, decided to trek 10 miles during their 10th year in aid of the Bowelbabe Fund, a charity established to raise awareness and money for those living with bowel cancer.

The cause rose to prominence through Dame Deborah, who sadly lost her battle to bowel cancer on June 28.
The kind-hearted youngsters exceeded their target after initially setting a £250 fundraising aim for their challenge, they went one stage further by making £330 as they walked through all kinds of weather.

Talking to The Correspondent, they said: “Dame Deborah has a daughter that’s a similar age to us and we wanted to show our support to the family by pushing ourselves to walk 10 miles.”
Maisie’s mother, Natalie expressed how proud she was to accompany the duo on their special day.

And as special recognition for their efforts, they were invited to spend the afternoon in the Mayor’s Parlour at Dukinfield Town Hall to talk all about their achievements.
Cllr Mike Glover and his consort Anne Gordon were joined by Maisie and Isla along with their parents, headteacher, Deborah Brown and Stalybridge North ward Councillor Jan Jackson
