THE Blaze Street Dance Academy produced all the right moves as they were placed in four classes on their debut at the Global Dance Organisation World Championships.
Thousands of dancers from across the globe came together to compete at K2, West Sussex, with the Ashton-based academy’s successes exceeding expectations.
Limitless, the academy’s elite group of 10 dangers aged between seven and 34 years, finished third in the Over-16s advanced class, the most prestigious event of the championships.
There were also individual honours including a third place for Luke Lozer in the aged eight and under solos.
Sammy-Jo Boulton and Kelsey Clarke were also placed third in the Over-16s duos.
And there was fifth place for Faith Lozer and Tulisa Beresford in the 12 years and under duos.
Blaze director Sammy-Jo, 34, who has been dancing since the age of three, said: “We did not expect to get placed at the world championships.
“I told the dancers to qualify from the North West was a great achievement and good enough.To get placed in the events exceeded expectations.”
Blaze collected £3,000 from a series of fundraising events to cover the cost of the trip.
Blaze has expanded by starting weekly classes in Stalybridge.
They are held each Thursday at Bower Fold Events which is part of Stalybridge Celtic’s ground.
Sammy-Jo, who formed the academy in 2011, said: “We had a lot of interest and demand for classes in Stalybridge which is why we decided to put them on in the town.
“At the first one, there were 14 children in the 2-6 years age group and five in the 7-14 years with more booked on in the coming weeks,” she said.
The academy, which is based at Store Street, Ashton, now has 130 students ranging in age between three and 34 years.
