Green fingered groups are bloomin’ marvellous

THERE is definitely something in the soil allowing Mossley volunteers to grow their success at the annual RHS North West Britain in Bloom awards.

Four different groups were represented at the annual event in Bolton, including first timers Friends of Egmont Street, and each returned home with a certificate to show for their efforts.

The Egmont Street volunteers received a level three, ‘advancing’ recognition while Friends of Mossley Park, Mossley Town Team and Off Shoots Garden Gang from Mossley Community Centre collected level five, ‘outstanding’ certificates.

“We all assumed we would be level one as it was our first time,” said Lesley Arnold from FoES.

“Our name was announced and we were all gobsmacked to find out we had gone straight in at Level three.

“So, absolutely over the moon, as you can imagine though the rest of the team are plotting level five for next year.”

Chris Lyness, former Mayor of Mossley and member of Mossley Town Team said: “We are so fortunate in this town to have groups of volunteers who work so hard all year round to make sure that the town looks it’s best. Well done everybody.”
