DUKINFIELD Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society is still hitting all the right notes in their 76th year as they bring a musical perfect for all generations.
The group is performing The Sound of Music in Mossley’s George Lawton Hall on October 18-22, every evening at 7.15pm and a Saturday matinee at 2.15pm.
The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows a postulant who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household.
But, as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire von Trapp family must make a moral decision.
Featuring a trove of cherished songs, including ‘Climb Ev’ry Mountain,’ ‘My Favourite Things,’ ‘Do Re Mi,’ ‘Sixteen Going on Seventeen’ and the title number, the musical won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars.
The final collaboration between Rodgers and Hammerstein was destined to become the world’s most beloved musical and has inspired audiences since it first opened in 1959 with its story of love and freedom.
This show was voted on by the members of the society during a secret ballot at the last show in 2019.
The society has performed the show twice before in both 1988 and 1970, both previously at Tameside Theatre.
