Denton lose Dunham Forest Trophy final

DENTON Golf Club were beaten finalists in the Dunham Forest Trophy, the Manchester Alliance’s premier team competition.

Three-times winners Denton lost 5.5-2.5 to Ashton-on-Mersey in the finale at Dunham Forest on Saturday, September 24.

The two Denton wins came from Matthew Heap and Bob Bardsley.

But with a couple of other matched not decided until the 18th hole, Denton professional Jimmy Lister explained the match could have gone either way.

“We are disappointed, but will try again next year,” explained Lister.

Denton last won the Dunham Forest Trophy in 2000, but have been beaten finalists several times since then, the last being in 2019.

Denton came through five rounds, all at home, to reach the final as they overcame Wilmslow, Bramhall Park, Ellesmere, Dukinfield and Prestwich.

There are seven players in the side and Denton used 10 players over the course of the tournament.

Lister was joined by Matt Sayers, Ryan Jackson, Bardsley, Simon Currier, Andrew Worswick, Nathan Graham, Damian Travers, Zak Gregory and Heap.
