TAMESIDE-BASED members of the Royal British Legion will be doing their bit for Queen and country once again with roles in Monday’s State Funeral.
Monday sees Her Majesty buried following her death and a period of lying-in-state at London’s Westminster Hall.
And as heads of state gather with members of the Royal Family to attend the service after a parade through the streets of the capital, they will benefit from locals’ expertise.
The Royal British Legion will be forming a guard of honour at the cenotaph as the Queen is taken from Westminster Abbey to Windsor Castle.
And four members of the Ashton branch will be providing their own service.
Branch president David Brown and branch member John Thornhill will be parade marshals.
Chairman Scott Pringle and another member, Chelsea Egerton, will be carrying Standards.
Today (Saturday, September 17) saw the first ever vigil of the grandchildren as eight of the Royal Family stood around their grandmother’s coffin.
And queues of more than 25 hours have been reported as the public gathers to file past and pay its respects.
