A talk entitled ‘Remembered Still – the Samuel Laycock Story’ takes place at Stalybridge Library on Tuesday, September 20 from 2pm.

Composing and performing were his passion and something Marsden born Laycock undertook in his spare time when not working in one of Stalybridge’s cotton mills, his Mossley photography shop or at the Stalybridge Mechanics Institution, the latter location where he worked as a librarian.

Laycock, who died in 1893, aged 67, has a school named in his memory on Broadoak Road, Ashton.

The talk will also provide the audience with a chance to browse Bob’s Book Stall, created by Bob Dobson who donated numerous items on Samuel Laycock to Ashton’s Local Studies Library.

The former police sergeant has also written, published and edited many books on local history themes.
