Judith lands second major of a memorable season

JUDITH Whitehead has landed her second major of the season at Stamford Golf Club.

The 62-year-old from Uppermill was victorious in the Ladies Centenary Trophy.

Her round of 96-29-67 gave her a three-shot winning margin over runner-up Jacqueline Froggatt (106-36-70) while third was Lesley Dowling (97-26-71).

Judith had earlier in the season won Lady Vice-Captain’s and finished runner-up in another major, Lady President’s which she won several years ago.

The highlight of the Centenary Trophy success was a birdie two at the eighth when Judith came within six inches of her first-ever hole-in-one.

Judith, who was lady captain in 2021, said: “The ball was heading straight for the hole and my playing partners and myself thought it had gone in.

“The shadow of a tree obscured the ball which initially disappeared only for it to filter out into the sun on the other side of the hole.

“It was the closest I have ever come to a hole-in-one, but nice to have a two on my card.”

After her latest success Judith, a private home carer, has seen her handicap cut by three shots to 26.
