Rotary club help kit out the juniors

MEMBERS of Dukinfield and Stalybridge Rotary Club have made sure those mentoring the next generation of footballers are not too shabby.

For they have handed over cheque for £540 to provide tracksuit tops for the coaches and managers of the 26 junior teams at Stalybridge Celtic Juniors.

The branch is active in making sure worthwhile causes across the borough are given funds if they want or need anything.

And the latest donation to the club, which is based on Mossley Road in Ashton, came with unanimous approval when it approached them – after it helped those less fortunate.

Club President Steve Gilligan said: “What stood out to us was the central role SCJFC played in the local community and as such the club shared many of our Rotary Club aims.

“SCJFC currently has more than 400 members and the subscriptions charged are kept deliberately low so it’s affordable for low-income families.

“And SCJFC contributes even more than sporting fellowship for young people.

“The club raises funds for local charities such as Cancer Warriors and the Stalybridge War Memorial.

“Like ourselves in Dukinfield and Stalybridge Rotary Club, SCJFC also worked hard during the pandemic to support vulnerable families, providing lunch boxes for children and young people who were missing out on free school meals.

“Dukinfield and Stalybridge Rotary Club is delighted to be able to support SCJFC in recognising the volunteers who give their time freely to benefit the young people in the football clubs, and in turn we appreciate the club featuring our Rotary Club logo on the tracksuit tops.”

Dukinfield and Stalybridge Rotary member Jan Jackson added: “I was approached by a board member from the Stalybridge Celtic Junior Football Club to ask if the Rotary Club would consider funding some sports tops for the hard-working volunteer coaches and managers who train and develop the young players in the 26 junior teams.

“When I raised this with my Rotary Club colleagues, there was immediate support for this request from all members.”
