Recording sees man banned from leisure centre

A MAN has been banned from entering a leisure centre after secretly recording another person for his own sexual gratification.

Paul Gregory was hauled before magistrates after being found to have filmed another member of the public in Denton in August last year.

And as part of his court punishment, he has been forbidden from going into Tameside Wellness Centre until July 2024.

Tameside Magistrates Court heard the 25-year-old, of Brierley Close in Denton, plead guilty to a charge of, ‘recording another person doing a private act with the intention that you would, for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification, look at an image of that other person doing the act, knowing that the other person did not consent to your recording the act with that intention.’

After admitting the count on June 9, Gregory was brought back for sentencing on July 8.

He was ordered to participate in an accredited programme for five weeks and carry out 200 hours of unpaid work within the next year.

Gregory was also handed a restraining order barring him from Tameside Wellness Centre, Denton until July 7, 2024.

He was also ordered to pay compensation of £500 and pay a surcharge of £95 and the same amount in costs.

A mobile phone belonging to him was forfeited and destroyed and Gregory was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for five years.
