New care home approved

DENTON is to get a new care home after proposals to convert a house of multiple occupation (HMO) were given the go ahead.

A six-bedroomed property on Hyde Road will accommodate up to five looked after children or young people, with a minimum of two daytime carers and two night time carers, living together as a single household.

And after Tameside Council granted permission for what houses up to six people aged 16 to 18 years old, no changes will be made to its appearance.

Applicants ISW CSC Ltd, who lodged their scheme through Shameem Haque, also believe it will boost the area.

Documents state: “We feel the proposed change of use is an ideal and appropriate use in this location and will not result in an adverse impact on the visual quality and amenity of the Local Environment.

“We actually feel that it will have a positive impact on the local environment by creating a much-needed resource for the looked after children.

“There is a vital need in the community – and throughout the country – for accommodation for children/young people.

“And the resources on the local authority would be similar to those of this size of dwelling, but possibly less cars and waste, due to the majority of the occupants being children.”

Those living at the building, which stands next to Denton Methodist Church, will be placed with ISW CSC under the care of their Tameside Council.

The plans also received the backing of Greater Manchester Police, who said: “It is clear that this type of facility is best situated within the community.”

Permission for the conversion was granted by Tameside Council’s director of place, Ian Saxon, but no-one can live there until a care plan incorporating the maximum number of residents, the minimum number of staff present, the age range of the residents, visiting arrangements and arrangements for notifying the local neighbourhood policing team about residents who are in occupation at the premises are approved in writing.
