TWO road bridges in Stalybridge are to be refurbished in a near £150,000 project.
The structures on Peel Street and Clarence Street, which go over the River Tame, are to have parapets that were removed reinstated.
Inspections revealed the original posts, providing restraint to vehicles passing over them, are in need of replacing to ensure the bridge users remain safe.
Now over a six-week period, starting in August or September, they are to be place back in after Tameside Council put a contract out to tender.

Out of three bids, Coating Services Limited – which has links to Hyde – was awarded the contract after a bid of £145,057.
And in an executive decision notice, the authority said it was given it, ‘on the basis of the best value and most financially advantageous tender received following a competitive tender process.’
It adds: “Following the evaluation of the tenders, the bid submitted by Coating Services Limited offers the best value and is recommended for acceptance.
“The scheme is due to commence in August/September 2022 following receipt of temporary work consent from the Environment Agency. The scheme has a six-week completion timescale.
“The contract award sum will be financed by the 2022/23 Capital Programme budget allocation of £679,000 that is allocated to finance bridge-related schemes across the borough.
“The budget sum is resourced via 2021/22 Highway Maintenance Grant that has been carried forward to 2022/23.
“It is essential that evidence of the value for money assessment via the tender submission evaluation process is retained and that the contract is robustly monitored to ensure milestones are delivered and that related works are carried out within the contract award value.”
