THE Berry Cup and Taylor Cup have reached their conclusions in the Stalybridge Snooker League.
In the final of whist’s Taylor Cup, Hyde Club triumphed after producing a great fightback against Mossley B.
With two of the 20 hands to play, Mossley led 120-114 only for Hyde to win the last two 10-3 and 8-5 to win by four tricks.
The Berry Cup for snooker and billiards between St Peter’s and Mossley B was just as close.
St Peter’s took an early lead by winning the first snooker and billiards games. Mossley hit back by taking the next two games to set up a winner takes all snooker doubles match.
It was a close game all the way to the colours and Mossley took the title by potting the final black to win.
The individual snooker knockout final between Dan Tipping, from Staly Vegas, defeated Kevin McIntosh, from St Peter’s 3-0 in the best of five frames, though all three were closely contested.
The individual billiards knockout final, the best of three frames, Andrew Betts, of Staly Labour, defeated McIntosh 2-0.
In the final of the paired doubles, Steve Malkin and Ian Hopton, from St Peter’s, beat Tipping and Rick Mason, from Staly Vegas, over one frame to win.
The final knockout was the 6Reds played at Staly Labour and St Peter’s.
In the semi-finals, Gareth Terry beat Mason and Kevin Welsh beat Betts with Terry winning the final 2-1.
The season has been very closely contested and all six teams will have trophies to collect at the presentation night on August 13.
The league is always looking for new players or teams to join and the new season will start towards the end of September.
