Adam leads home Mossley runners in Tour of Tameside

EIGHT Mossley AFC Running Club members completed the full Tour of Tameside with Adam Battersby 25th overall in a time of 3hrs 55min.

The others to finish the four stages were Ed Law (4:43, 146th), Anthony Shepard (4:52, 166th), Steve Grainger (5:29, 250th), Julie Williamson (5:36, 263rd), Steve Bates (5: 40, 270th), Paul Guerin (5:40, 272nd) and Stuart Williamson (5:59, 290th).

The final day of the Tour saw sixteen additional Mossley runners complete the Dr Ron Hill Hyde 7.


The Tour of Tameside takes place over four consecutive days and sees runners complete 32 miles of varying terrain.

This spring has seen the launch of the inaugural Mossley AFC Running Club Championship which has encouraged members to compete at local races, the first event saw 20 members take on a 5K trail race organised by Hyde Village Striders.

The top five Mossley finishers were Richard Wilson (23:00), Shaun Mason (23:36), Joe Carroll (25:13), Helen Gregory (25:34) and Anthony Shepard (25:48).

Mossley members were also represented in the Great Manchester Run with Adam Battersby the first orange runner home in 42:27. Lee Birmingham (48:14), Janet Oakes (55:26) and Allanda Stevenson (58:06) beat the hour mark while Cara Taylor (1:00:07) Jennie Rogers (1:04:15), Bernadette Mattison (1:04:43), Lesley Moreland (1:05:05) and Claire Whitehead (1:05:08) put in great performances.


Sisters Sharon and Nicola White as well as Stephanie Hannington and Anne Everett travelled to Conniston to race the Lakeland Trails series’ Conniston Half Marathon which included 1,290 feet elevation.

Another local race that returned to the calendar was the Dovestone Diamond which saw Mossley members Adam Battersby, Lee Birmingham, Shaun Mason and Lesley Moreland take on the brutal climbs.

Mossley runners have been busy on the parkun circuit in events at Pontefract, Livingstone, Torvean Scotland, Sheffield, Huddersfield and Watergrove.
