Stalybridge gets new Contrary side

STALYBRIDGE has a new Contrary figure after street artist Mr Eggs left more artwork in its town centre.

The creator’s latest vision, titled Contrary Mary, now adorns the wall of the White House pub, on Water Street.

It replaces the Christmas picture and shows a young child with a flower and the reaction has been more positive than negative, especially when its meaning was revealed.

For Mr Eggs told The Correspondent: “It’s just about not all graffiti is criminal or vandalism it can also be beautiful too.”

The artist has added several pictures to buildings in Stalybridge, including one showing footballers Gary Neville and Paul Scholes kissing each other on a famed celebration from a Manchester United match in 2010.

That was placed on what used to be The Rifleman pub after Blackpool player Jake Daniels came out as England’s first gay player in more than 30 years.
