Priory Tennis Club celebrates Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

TO mark the Queens Platinum Jubilee, Priory Tennis Club put on a fun day of celebrations and tennis.

It began with a mixed doubles tournament which resulted in one of the best turnout of members in recent years with more than 40 players of all ages and abilities entering. Teams were drawn at random and players took to the court for some great tennis.

Plenty of non-playing members, family and friends also turned out to support the event and enjoy an afternoon of celebrations including food and drink, of course featuring the seasonal strawberries and cream.

The competitive tennis season is in full flow with five Priory teams competing across the North East Cheshire League and Manchester and District League.

Following promotion from division two last season, the men’s first team is battling hard to retain its position in division one of the NECTL. And with three fixtures to be played, the team remains hopeful of staying up.

The men’s second team is currently challenging for the title and promotion in division seven of the NECTL with three fixtures remaining, while the men’s third team is also in with a chance of topping Manchester and District League, division three.

The women’s first and second teams are also enjoying successful campaigns and are likely to remain in their divisions following promotion of the first team last season.

After being awarded the Parks and Communities 2022 award by LTA Cheshire and being nominated for the National LTA Awards, Priory and head coach Andy Perry will be presented with the award by LTA senior officials at the club on Saturday, July 16.

This is an incredible achievement for a small four-court club in Cheshire and the club and everyone involved is extremely proud and honoured to have been given the county prize and to have nominated for the national award.
