MEMBERS of Tameside Rotary made a real impact by donating punchbags to the borough’s Elite Boxing Academy.
Representatives met head coach, Steve Tallo-Brady, and witnessed the four brown leather Authentic Lonsdale pieces of kit bought the club and a 1285 Rotary Foundation Grant.
And it did not take long for their effect to be felt as he told them: “We really appreciate any help you were able to give us, it means a lot.”
Tameside Rotary Foundation Chair, Cliff Hall, said: “We are proud to support the boxing academy.
“It provides a healthy environment and improves the well-being and behaviour of the children and gives them a different outlook on life as it teaches them the science not violence.”
Tameside Rotary President Angela Robbins added: “The email we received meant so much to us, everything in it tells of gratitude, love and care and this is quite clearly evident the minute you step into the academy and comes from the kindness and enthusiasm of Steve at the top and permeates through the academy.”
It was a case of going from the catwalk to the boxing ring as Tameside Rotary hosted a charity fashion show on Wednesday, May 20, at Mossley’s Westholme Masonic Hall in association with Fizz Clothing aid of the Samaritans.
Angela added: “We sold out of tickets a week before the event which is wonderful for us.
“There was a very happy atmosphere to the evening, and some ladies commented on how impressive Westholme Hall is in its architecture and stained glass windows.”
From the sale of tickets, the raffle and 10 per cent donated by Fizz from their profits, Tameside Rotary Club raised more than £1,000.
