Stalybridge Snooker League reaches knockout phase

THE Stalybridge Snooker League is now in its knockout stages, both for the team and individual events.

They have already started the snooker and billiards individual as well as their darts league while the team knockouts are about to start.

The individual snooker knockout began in mid-March with preliminary and first-round matches.

They are now at the quarter-final stages with three players from Staly Vegas still in the competition along with four from Mossley B and one from St Peter’s.

The individual billiards knockout again started in mid-March and has already reached the semi-final stages which will be played on June 16.

The remaining players are Steve Malkin and Kevin McIntosh, from St Peter’s, along with Mike Hallam, from Denton CC, and Andrew Betts, from Staly Labour.

Currently there has been one knockout competition completed as Staly Vegas’ Dan Tipping won the pool competition, beating Betts from Staly Labour 3-0 in the final.

The darts league is currently halfway through and Malkin, from St Peter’s, is the leader.

There are still more competitions to be completed before the presentation night.

The Berry and Taylor Cup competitions start soon. These are the team snooker/billiards and whist knockouts.

• The Stalybridge Snooker League, formed in 1910, originally started playing only billiards but currently plays billiards, single and doubles snooker and whist while the table games are in progress.

The league season runs from September and when that finishes team and individual knockout competitions are held, culminating in an annual meeting in late summer.

It has previously had clubs from all over Tameside and currently has six teams including ones from Mossley and Denton.

They are always looking to expand the number of clubs or new players to strengthen the existing teams.

The league is competitive while giving players the opportunity to socialise every Thursday.
