Man dies in Mottram Moor collision

POLICE have confirmed a man died in a traffic collision that saw a major road closed for several hours. 

The 35-year-old was pronounced dead after the incident involving a black motorcycle on Mottram Moor in Mottram.

At just after 10.15pm last night (Sunday, May 8), Greater Manchester Police officers were called out after reports came in.

The road was closed until this morning while investigations were carried out after emergency services attended and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed and specialist officers are supporting them at this time, with an appeal for information being made.

PC Phillip Collingwood, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family who are understandably devastated at the loss of their loved one and we’re doing all we can to get the family the answers they need.

“I would ask anyone with information or anyone who may have seen the black motorcycle prior to the collision to get in touch.

Stalybridge and Hyde MP Jonathan Reynolds, who lives close to the scene, said: “Tragically there was a fatality at in Mottram last night when I understand a vehicle lost control coming downhill.

“My heart goes out to the family and friends of the person who sadly lost their life last night.”
