STALYBRIDGE Celtic Juniors have raised £4,700 for the humanitarian appeal for victims of the war in Ukraine.
The proceeds were from a match between club coaches and parents at Bower Fold as they battled for the Barty’s Championship Cup as the game was sponsored by local charity champion Steven Barton.
The money is being given to Save the Children to help with their efforts to support children and families caught up in the war.

Mark Nolan, who came up with the idea for the match, chose to raise money for Save the Children after hearing an interview on BBC Radio 5 Live about the on the ground localised work they were doing on the Ukraine/Poland border.
The money raised came from more than 300 fans at the game, player subs on matchday, and sponsorship from Barty’s Foodbank, PT Factory and Malbern Windows.
Juniors also thanked Bower Fold Events for their hard work in hosting a raffle and food stalls as well as making a generous donation and Stalybridge Celtic for allowing them to use Bower Fold.
The match would not have been possible without the committed volunteers from Stalybridge Celtic Juniors and in particular Emma Clifford, Darren Clifford, Gemma Hughes, Zack Hughes, Will Langstaff, Sarah Jane McCloud, Mark Nolan, Ross Stanley, Wendy Stanley and Lee Williams.
Juniors have also set up a JustGiving page and donations can be made online at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/stalybridgecelticjuniors-ukraine
• Football clubs in Nigeria can be found wearing Juniors’ kit.

The playing strips, which the youngsters had grown out of, were taken to the capital Lagos by Charles Maduemezia who coaches the Under-14 Whites Colts.
Charles regularly travels to Nigeria and shared the kits between three clubs.
