Donations help Mossley bloom

KIND donations have enabled Mossley Town Team to start work on making sure flower beds and planters are as colourful as ever.

One touching handout came from the wife of late volunteer Linda Sidebottom, Ken, as it is what she wanted.

Volunteers got stuck into work surrounding George Lawton Hall after Mr Sidebottom’s £200 and £500 from Robertson’s Facilities Management.

And in summing up why he gave the cash, Ken said: “It’s what she asked me to do to keep Mossley looking bright.

“She loved flowers and she loved Mossley. l will keep helping whilst I can.”

New plants and edging strips are being put in while other planters and flower beds around the town will also be tended to.

It is one of a number of projects Mossley Town Team is involved in and more paintings may be put up after more venues put themselves forward to take part in a growing art trail.

Under the ‘Painting The Town’ tag, installations have been placed around the area with the intention of it becoming bigger.

Now Mossley Town Team has been told of at least four more buildings want to get involved.

They have been informed Stephen Porter, of Mossley Football Club, is keen to sponsor one of Chris Cyprus’ football pictures on the side of Mossley Village Chippy, on Arundel Street.

McKeevers Chemist has agreed to a picture on the side of their premises in Bottom Mossley and in Top Mossley, the Methodist Church and The Fleece pub have indicated they are happy to have pictures installed.

On the priority list for the Town Team and the art trail is getting an installation welcoming people into Mossley from Ashton.

Any freestanding picture and the group is seeking permission from any land owner they decide it will be situated on.
